The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is a federal agency within the United States Department of Health and Human Services, responsible for the safety control and regulation of food contact materials. All food contact materials must obtain FDA clearance before entering the U.S market. Specifically, food packaging products made of pulp and paper are required to reach U.S. FDA CFR 21 176.170.
ISEGA is an independent testing and certification institute based in Germany. The testing reports and certificates of ISEGA are widely recognized and applied across Europe and the globe. Under the ISEGA certification, materials that come into contact with food must comply with the regulations in Europe.
In China, the “Hygienic Standard for Base Paper for Food Packaging” (GB ) sets the national regulatory standard for base paper used in food packaging. The standard is applicable to base paper directly contacting the food, including food wrapper, candy paper, and popsicle packaging paper, etc.
The certification of “Quality Safety” (QS) is managed by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) of the government of China. QS certificates are required for any manufacturer who produces food packaging materials made of plastics and paper in the country. Those who have not attained the QS certificates from the AQSIQ are not allowed to produce or sell any food containers and packaging products in China.
