20MW solar project completed at Asia Pulp & Paper

Jakarta, 19 November 2014 – A 20MW rooftop solar project has been completed at Asia Pulp & Paper Group’s (APP) Gold HongYe Mill in Suzou, China, creating one of the world’s largest rooftop solar installations. The panels cover approximately 300,000 square meters – the equivalent of 42 football pitches.
The installation consists of ten thousand panels installed across the 12 production buildings, warehouses and administrative buildings of the mill.

It is anticipated that the solar project will produce approximately 20 million KWh – enough to power 6,000 homes in the local area.

Madam Zhai, Deputy CEO at APP China said, “Investment in renewable energy in China continues apace and we are proud to be a part of growth in the sector. Our rooftops are helping to reduce the country’s carbon emissions while at the same time supplying power to the local community.”

Gold HongYe Paper Group is a subsidiary of Asia Pulp & Paper. The company operates four papermaking mills and sixteen processing plants across China and employs over 13,000 people. It is the market leader for household paper and toilet tissue in Asia producing over 500,000 tonnes of base paper and 600,000 tonnes of finished goods under the Virjoy, Breeze and Zhen Zhen brands.
